| Description: | The Park Safety Officer is responsible for performing or assisting with the following duties, access control, emergency response, crowd control, performing escorts and courtesy transports, criminal investigations, answering phones, writing reports, maintaining logs, performing inspections, investigations, dispatch and overseeing contract security personnel.
Authority and Accountability:
The Park Safety Officer has the authority to carry out the job requirements and responsibilities and is accountable to the Park Safety Supervisor. The Park Safety Officer will have the authority to refuse access to guests, visitors, contractors or any person seeking to gain entry without proper authorization or identification.
The Park Safety Officer will be held accountable for following and enforcing the policies and procedures of the Detroit Zoological Society and for reporting violations in the established reporting process in a timely and accurate manner.

| Duties: | Monitoring and controlling the flow of traffic throughout the park
Performing access control duties
Performing Dispatcher duties
Verifying that all employees, contractors and vendors have the proper identification and authorization to access Society grounds
Meeting, greeting and assisting guests as necessary
Provide a high level of professional customer service to guests and employees
Monitoring vehicles parked on Society grounds
Receiving and dispersing information as needed
Completing incident reports and assisting with accident/incident investigations
Responding to emergency situations
Conducting safety inspections and investigations
Over seeing contract security personnel
Other duties as assigned
Working Conditions:
The regular work schedule will include some weekends, evenings, early-mornings and holidays. Work is performed in an environment that has a high volume of traffic, requires the ability to deal with stressful and sometimes abusive situations. The officer will be required to work in rain, snow and extremely hot and cold temperatures.
Physical Requirements:
The officer will be required to stand and sit for extended periods of time; must be able to multi task.
A high degree of writing will be required and exposure to the elements. The officer should be able to lift a minimum of 25 pounds. Bending, squatting, walking and running will be required. The officer will be required to pass and entry level drug screen and may be subjected to periodic drug tests.

| Qualifications: | Minimum:
High School Diploma or GED
Four years of experience as a security officer, with at least one year of crowd control experience in an entertainment venue.
Must be 21 years of age.
Valid State of Michigan Drivers license required
Excellent phone skills
Good interpersonal skills
Must be a team player and worker who will work well with and support co-workers and supervisors
Cooperative, professional demeanor
Good oral and writing articulation skills
Accurate record keeping ability
No felony, drug related, child/spouse/animal abuse or theft convictions. Must pass the State of Michigan State Police Criminal Background check or equivalent from other states of residence.
Able to work varied hours and extended shifts
Preferred:
Previous experience working in a position of leadership
Above average computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Access
